The incident happened in Roosevelt on West Greenwich Avenue shortly before 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15.

Nassau County Police said a 10-year-old girl was riding her bicycle when she lost her balance and struck the side of a passing mini school bus traveling eastbound on West Greenwich Avenue.

The child suffered severe abrasions on both of her legs, and her 40-year-old mother injured her right hand trying to help her. Both were taken to a hospital.

The school bus driver, a 44-year-old woman, remained at the scene. Nobody else was injured.

It was not immediately clear whether any children were on the bus at the time.
